The Six Best Colorado Fishing Spots

Fishing in Colorado at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison - Atha Team Real Estate BlogThere are lots of great places to fish in Colorado, but if you really want to have an outdoor adventure catching salmon, trout, and other fish for recreation or food, you’ll want to choose your spot carefully. The wrong patch of water could mean a long day without much success. Here are six of the best areas to consider when your outdoor activity includes fishing.

Gore Creek

Don’t let its small size fool you. There’s plenty of trout and other fish in this river, and you can fish in any section of it.

North Delaney Lake

There are three high mountain lakes near Walden, and Delaney is one of them. The State works hard to boost trout stock here, so the fishing is good.

The Frying Pan River

The currents are strong in this river, but that’s good news. Only the strong fish survive, and that gives you some great fishing. Expect a battle that’s well worth it.

Animas River

Some sections of this river are 100 feet wide, and the best way to get to them is through Durango. The river is beautiful and so are the surroundings. Of course, so are the fish.

Gunnison River

If you’re a committed angler, this can be a great choice. Steep, windy roads are a part of the journey to this river, or you can hike in if you have a back country permit. It’s worth it.

North Platte River

Colorado Fishing - Atha Team Realty Agents BlogThis river is legendary for Colorado fishing. You’ll need a raft or a kayak to get to some of the best spots, but you won’t be disappointed as some of the best trout fishing in the West can be found here.

A lot of people buy a home in Colorado so they can enjoy all the outdoor recreation that the state has to offer. If you live in Colorado or you plan to in the future, fishing could be a big part of the fun you’ll have. There are real estate options all along the Front Range, the Western Slope, and other areas, so you can be sure to get a home close to your favorite fishing spot. You don’t have to be an outdoor enthusiast when you’re living in Colorado, but the state offers so many great options for fishing, hunting, hiking, and more that you probably won’t want to stay inside.
