Top 3 Camping Destinations in Colorado
If you’re looking for camping and other outdoor recreation options in Colorado, you have a lot of great choices. There are trails and campsites all over the state. From the Front Range to the Western Slope, living in Colorado means being close to nature almost all the time. If you want a secluded campsite for just yourself, or you’re looking for something that’s more family friendly, to live in Colorado is to have options for outdoor activity. Here are three of the best campsite or campfire locations to consider.
1) Horn Fork Basin, in the San Isabel National Forest
You can find this gorgeous piece of real estate just west of Buena Vista, with the 14,000 foot peaks of Mount Columbia and Mount Harvard surrounding it. You’re welcome to climb the mountains, but camping in the valley with the creeks, lakes, and breathtaking views can be just as rewarding. You’ll be hiking about three miles in from the trail head, and then heading left for the best camping.
2) Upper Slate Lake, in the Eagles Nest Wilderness of the White River National Forest
This campsite is for the true outdoor enthusiast, as it’s not an easy spot to reach. But it’s incredibly beautiful, and one of the most significant places for peace and quiet in the state. Jagged peaks are the dominant feature of the skyline, while glassy lakes reflect the stars at night. You’ll feel very far away from the condos and ski resorts of Summit County, even though you’re actually close to the action when you want to find it again.
3) Vasquez Ridge, Winter Park, Arapahoe National Forest
When you want to focus on undesignated camping, this is the place to go. Even though you’re just a few miles from the downtown area of Winter Park, you’ll feel like you’re in another world entirely. Fishing, biking, hiking, off-roading, and much more are all available here. You can camp for free, and whether you want an actual campsite or something much more primitive, you’ll have quite a few areas to choose from.
It can be great to buy a home in Colorado, but sometimes you want to get away from four walls and let the night sky be your ceiling. With so many beautiful areas in the state, you can choose the ones you like best when you’re looking to be close to nature.
