Giving Back on the Western Slope

Giving Back on the Western Slope As we enter the holiday season this year, now more than ever, it is important to give back to our local community on the Western Slope. With rising prices at the forefront of everyone’s mind, we love taking the opportunity to help others have abundant meals with their loved ones. Whether you are providing a turkey meal or volunteering your time, any effort can make all the difference to those less fortunate.

Some local options for holiday meals come through sources like Grace Community Church’s turkey boxes that are provided by members of the congregation and Montrose Community Dinner’s Thanksgiving meal at Friendship Hall on North 2nd Street. Warm meals can be delivered to those unable to venture out, but of course, this all revolves around individuals willing to volunteer their time to make it happen. Shephard’s Hand is another organization that provides hot meals for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, and they also have food boxes for those in need on South 2nd Street. And because they don’t have any employed staff, they also survive on the support of volunteers providing their time, financial support, or food, toiletries, and clothing donations. Sharing Ministries is a food bank that also thrives on volunteers who contribute time, food, funds, or equipment. They have a sock ministry and participate in the City Market community rewards program. The Montrose Community Foundation is also an incredible organization that gives back to Montrose and the Uncompahgre Valley by donating, grant writing, and education scholarships. They allow donors to be involved in who receives their grants, care immensely about the community, and are invested in legacy-building. After Christmas, non-profits are also hosting community dinners like the one happening in downtown Montrose’s Main Street from 5-9 pm on January 1st.

Holiday Pumpkin Pie - Atha Team BlogAnd giving back does not have to be limited to the holiday time! Something as simple as dropping off a pumpkin pie can take the baking burden off a holiday host. There are plenty of opportunities to bless others by providing a meal in times of loss or need, and it is important to teach the next generation the mindset of a servant’s heart willing to help others in their journey. The Atha Team strives to be intentional about giving to a wide variety of local organizations that benefit the community. If you are ever at a loss for ideas in this area, here is a link to our website with a list of non-profits that we support children and families with different challenges, construction of community trails and BLM conservation, counseling, youth development and child care, philanthropic efforts, victims of human trafficking, substance abuse treatment, and community education.
