Authentic Burger Shacks In and Around Montrose

Crash Burger Montrose Colorado Authentic HamburgersIf you live around Montrose Colorado, often the desire for a good hamburger leads you out of town to In-N-Out Burger. But the Western Slope and surrounding area actually have some diamonds in the rough if you want something closer to home. Montrose’s Crash Burger is quite the local favorite with freshly made, mouth-watering burgers accompanied by their free French fries. They feature daily specials like free bacon Mondays and family specials on Wednesdays including 4 single burgers, 4 fries, and 4 medium sodas for a reduced price. Traditional “fixins” are included plus options like grilled onions, green chilies, jalapeños, sriracha, aioli sauce, and pepper jack cheese to take it up a notch. And don’t forget to pair your custom hamburger with one of their delicious milkshakes to top it off. Although a relatively young restaurant started by a retired Montrose fire department captain, Crash Burger has great reviews, indoor and outdoor seating, and a drive-through if you’re in a hurry.

If you’re looking for a fun weekend destination three hours west of Montrose in Moab is Milt’s Stop & Eat. The town’s oldest restaurant has over 2,000 Google reviews raving about old-fashion milkshakes with about 20 different flavors to choose from. Their elk or beef “grass-fed, hormone-free fresh burgers” have been making mouths water since 1954, and they have unique options like a fried bacon and egg cheeseburger or a Santa Fe cheeseburger topped with grilled green chili, cheddar cheese, chipotle sauce, and your choice of traditional toppings. This full-service restaurant is not limited to burgers but offers a variety of burritos, sandwiches, and even some delicious breakfast options. Don’t forget to save room for dessert with their reasonably priced brownies, churros, ice cream cones, and sundaes to top off your meal!

Maggie’s Kitchen in Ouray is about an hour south of Montrose, open Thursday through Sunday until 4 pm. Voted “Best Burger” on the main street through town, this quaint restaurant has graffiti-covered walls where you can put your mark when you visit. Their hand-made patties can be paired with fries, coleslaw, or onion rings, and you’ll be sure to satisfy your cravings when pairing the meal with an ice-cold beer. A wider variety of hamburgers are offered including patty melts, mushroom, jalapeño, green chili cheese, and bleu cheese burgers. In addition, they have tilapia sandwiches, turkey Swiss bacon avocado sandwiches, an all-beef hot dog, chicken nuggets, and even a vegetarian black bean burger.
