Best Rafting/Stand Up Paddleboarding in Colorado
Outdoor recreation and the state of Colorado are practically synonymous with each other. From rafting and enjoying the fun of a stand up paddleboard (SUP) to taking on the rapids and spending time exploring all the beauty nature has to offer, there’s something for every outdoor enthusiast. Here are four of the best options for places where you can get out in nature and enjoy your raft or your stand up paddleboard.
1) Big Soda Lake Reservoir
Close to the Denver/Boulder area, this small lake is close to many other beautiful natural attractions, as well. The area doesn’t allow powerboats, so you can paddleboard and raft as much as you want without worrying about boats disturbing the water. This is among the best of the Front Range options.
2) Lake San Cristobal
This is the second largest natural lake in the state, and a great choice for people who are on or near the Western Slope. If you enjoy outdoor activity on the water, this is the place to be. The waters are calm, and when you live in Colorado or vacation there you can appreciate the beautiful stillness it has to offer.
3) Lake Dillon
If you’re looking for real estate deeper in the mountains, or you’re thinking you want to buy a home in Colorado to be close to outdoor recreation opportunities, this is a great option. It’s an excellent place for SUP, and the mountain peaks surrounding it offer some of the best scenery. You can bring your own SUP or rent one there, but make sure you have a lifejacket. It’s required.
4) Montrose, Colorado
The Uncompahgre River flowing through Montrose features a man-made water sports park. The swift flowing water includes six drop structures, terraced spectating areas and beach areas. The surrounding park features picnic areas, extensive playgrounds, ball fields, recreation trails, a disc-golf course, a skate park and several other ponds. Bring the whole family and enjoy this waterborne excitement while soaking up some sun.
Living in Colorado can provide you with a multitude of options for SUP and rafting. Whether you want some rapids to contend with or you’re looking for a lake that’s as smooth as glass, you’ll find it among the options available to you throughout the state of Colorado. Enjoy your time on the water, and appreciate the natural beauty that’s offered there. It’s an excellent way to relax and have fun with all that activities on the water can provide.
