Five of the Best Hiking Trails in Colorado

Montrose Co Real Estate

Hiking is a big part of outdoor recreation in Colorado. There are a number of places to hike, depending on the views you want and how difficult of a hike you’re looking for. Here are five of the best places, from the Front Range to the Western Slope, where you can hike Colorado and enjoy the beauty it has to offer.

1) Hanging Lake Hike

This is a relatively short hike, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t demanding. There are two waterfalls to enjoy, along with the lake itself. It’s a three-hour drive to the trailhead from Denver (2 hours from Grand Junction), and the scenery along the way is some of the best you’ll find in the area. Just south of Glenwood Springs, this is a trip that is pretty popular with families and individuals. Permits are required, and you’ll need to get there early for good parking.

2) Fern Falls Hike

Rocky Mountain National Park’s east side is the location of beautiful Fern Falls. Hiking past the falls will take you to Fern Lake, which is another great place to appreciate nature. The hike to the falls itself is nearly a 5.5 mile round trip, and in some areas, you’ll be gently misted by water cascading down the rocks.

3) Devil’s Head Fire Lookout Hike

Hiking In Colorado - Atha Team BlogJust a little over an hour from Denver, you can find a lovely piece of real estate where you can hike a nearly three mile round trip. As an outdoor enthusiast, that might not seem like a very long hike, but it’s a moderate difficulty level and an excellent way to get in some outdoor activity whether you live in Colorado, or you’re just visiting.

4) Four Lakes and Waterfall Loop Hike

For a little bit longer hike, consider this 6.4 mile round trip. You’ll see Alberta Falls, along with four gorgeous lakes. There’s a variety of terrain to explore in the area, making it a good hike to take when you want to see what living in Colorado and being close to nature is like.

5) Monarch Lake Loop Hike

This four-mile loop is one of the best ways to get an idea of what it would be like to buy a home in Colorado and have mountains and lakes nearly in your backyard. It’s an easy hike and a diverse one, making it a good choice for beginners who want to see a lot of the natural beauty without doing anything too taxing.
